Tummy Tuck Scarring:

Abdominoplasty or commonly known as tummy tuck is the procedure of tightening the abdomen usually to repair the changes that have been brought about by pregnancy, age or weight loss. It is best performed on patients that are healthy and are maintaining a steady weight. A protruding abdomen, stretch marks, and lose skin are significantly reduced as a result of tummy tuck that are generally caused by the weakening of the muscles along the abdominal wall. A tummy tuck scar is normally observed after the surgery and is sometimes seen as a disadvantage.

Tummy Tuck Procedure:

Tummy tuck should not be confused with liposuction or as a weight-reducing procedure. It mainly focuses on the weak muscles and the excess skin that can be difficult to achieve through an ordinary exercise or a simple diet. A horizontal incision is made above the pubic area where excess skin and fat are removed. Then the muscles will be lifted and repositioned, after which they will be sutured together tightly. The navel position will definitely be altered since the tissue connecting it to the wall is removed. In two to five hours time, the whole surgery will be over; and because of the large incision, tummy tuck scars are likewise extensive.

How to Conceal Tummy Tuck Scar:

The degree of abdominoplasty scar is dependent on the scope of the procedure performed on the patient. They are less extensive in lower or partial tummy tuck than in a full tummy tuck. Even if they are permanent in nature, tummy tuck scars can be easily concealed through the use of the right clothing or under a bikini. During the process of healing, tummy tuck scars can even get worse but will eventually flatten out and lighten in color in a year or so.

A full abdominoplasty will produce a tummy tuck scar that could be visible along the navel area and extending from hip to hip. This is because two incisions are made during the surgery, a horizontal opening plus another circling the belly button to reposition the navel. On the other hand, tummy tuck scars in partial abdominoplasty is lesser extensive since only a horizontal slit is made.

Tummy Tuck Benefits:

In spite of having tummy tuck scars resulting from the operation, the long-term effect of the surgery is more than enough to set aside this drawback. Tummy tuck enhances the contour and appearance of the abdomen and greatly improves the overall look of the patient.
