The septoplasty procedure is a surgical operation that is intended to correct a deviated septum, which is the wall made of bone and cartilage that separates both your nostrils. This simple surgery, which can be completed between 45 to 90 minutes, works at enabling you to breathe more easily because of the removal of the obstruction to your nasal passages. Usually performed as an outpatient procedure, there are a number of important aftercare instructions that come with going through the procedure and one of these is the septoplasty exercise order.
Most patients who undergo a septoplasty surgery normally take one to five days off from work even if they are allowed to go home the same day as the operation. While there might be a degree of pain that could be felt after the procedure, which could range from mild to moderate, this could be managed well with the intake of pain medications. Although heavy exercise, air travel, or heavy lifting is to be avoided for at least two weeks after the procedure, this does not mean that septoplasty exercise is not recommended.
Here are some of the orders that your surgeon will be giving you regarding the septoplasty exercise that you need to do after the surgery:
- Regular septoplasty exercise would be able to help you in going back to doing all your normal activities as soon as you can. However, before you start doing these light exercises, you should ask your surgeon first on the proper exercises that you could do.
- If you are used to lifting heavy things before your surgery, then you should refrain from doing so for at least five days after your surgery. During this time, you should not attempt to lift things that weigh over five pounds.
- If you want to do some kind of septoplasty exercise within the few days after your surgery, then you could start by doing light bending exercises or by slowly climbing up a flight of stairs. However, you can do these only two days after your surgery.
- Before you could go back to doing strenuous septoplasty exercise and heavy lifting, you must consult with your surgeon first so he could look into your healing process.
Remember that you can slowly go back to doing all your normal daily activities and functions within the span of six to eight weeks after your surgery. During this time, you can gradually increase your septoplasty exercise routines so you could also help speed up your healing process.
