Regaining Normal Breathing after Septoplasty
The main organ for breathing is the nose. It is the visible part of the respiratory system because it is located at the center of the face. It is a vertebrate respiratory organ that consists of two nostrils characterized by the holes in the front of the nose. It is responsible in the reception and expulsion of air during the respiratory process. While many people take this organ for granted, not for other people who have breathing problems and where such condition can only be corrected after septoplasty.
The Nasal Septum
The wall that separates the left and right nostrils and the two nasal passages is called the nasal septum. These are made up of thin bony pieces that are lined along the nostrils and are located deep within the nose. It is the line of support of the nose and directs the passage of the airflow. When the nasal septum is crooked or somehow deviated because the bone or cartilage is not straight, it makes breathing difficult. It can also be the cause of snoring and a sleeping disorder called sleep apnea. Deformities in the nasal septum are usually corrected after septoplasty.

After Septoplasty Nose Surgery
Septoplasty is performed to correct deviated or crooked nasal septum and to regain the normal passage of air. In other cases, the surgery opens up the inner part of the nose after septoplasty surgery. Septoplasty is the other cosmetic surgery done in the nose. As opposed to rhinoplasty, which is usually for reconstructive purposes, septoplasty is the surgical reshaping of the nasal septum. Performed for aesthetic and reconstructive functions, a normal breathing flow is attained after septoplasty. This will also treat inflammations, polyps, bleeding or tumors.
Post Septoplasty Operation
Septoplasty is a sensitive operation, but the patient can usually go home the same day after septoplasty surgery. Discomfort in the nasal area in the next two days should be expected but this is normal. The doctor would usually give oral medicines for pain to reduce the discomfort. Ice packs will be required to be placed around the nose and in the cheek area, too. This will reduce considerable bruising and swelling. A gauze tape may also be used to absorb blood underneath the nose. Although it seems like a simple surgery, it takes nearly a month to fully recover. During the recovery period, the patient is strictly advised to avoid strenuous activities and to stay home until complete recovery.
