Otoplasty Recovery Tips
- Ear dressing. This protective ear dressing is normally placed properly with an adhesive tape. However, be careful not to let it fall down to the area where the surgery was done. Avoid too much movement so the dressing will stay in its place.
- Hair washing. It is recommended to avoid washing your hair until your doctor said so. In most cases you will be allowed to wash your hair if the ear dressing is already removed.
- Ear bending. Try to avoid bending your ear for one month. In order for you to have a quick otoplasty recovery, you must be extra careful not to bend your ears.
- Working. People who underwent otoplasty surgery is advised to have complete rest for the whole week after the surgical operation. They may be allowed to go back to work after a week from its operation but they must not be involved in any activity that requires full force and strength.
- Schooling. A week of full rest is likewise recommended for children before going back to school. However, even if the children are back in school already, they still must not participate in any heavy physical activities so they can have complete otoplasty recovery.
- Ear protecting. After the dressings are removed, usually after a week or two, otoplasty patients are still required to wear headbands. This is to make sure that the ears will achieve the perfect shape that the patients dreamed. Wearing a headband is preferably done especially at bedtime because this is the time where there is high possibility of ear deformation.
- Hair blowing. Use of devices that are capable of producing excessive heat or extreme cold such as hair blowers and dryers should be avoided.
- Seeking help. If further signs of infections that seem to be unusual occur after the operation, seek for your doctor’s advice as soon as possible.
