Recovery after a rhinoplasty is no easy stage. After the surgical procedure, the patient goes through a series of medication and treatment. It is in this stage of rhinoplasty where patience is totally necessary. However, nose job recovery is not at all that alarming provided that the patient is equipped with the necessary knowledge to manage the side effects of the surgery. Nose Job Recovery
The surgeon must provide the patient all the help he or she can get, and the patient, in turn, must be faithful with the treatment that shall be provided.
- Once the surgeon prescribes you pain relievers and antibiotics, you may find it necessary to buy the medicines in advance before you get home. Buying the needed prescriptions can actually help you in case of sudden attacks of pain. Of course, it is important that you take the medicines on time and religiously follow the surgeon’s prescription as instructed.
- Oftentimes, the surgeon prescribes you to have nasal packing, which is placed in your nose to prevent or at least reduce the swelling and bleeding. It will make you feel smothered but nevertheless, it is not something to be alarmed of. Some surgeons would place a tube or straw in the mid area of the nasal packing for to provide easier breathing. The packing will be removed in after the few days of your visit to the surgeon.
- However, other surgeons may not suggest use of cold compresses because the cold compress can help relieve the swelling and bruising. Bags of frozen peas or raspberries can be also be used as cold compress but just be sure to avoid puncturing the bag.
- Bruising is one side effect of rhinoplasty so it is just normal to notice bruises in the treated area. Some patients even get black eyes after the surgery but these bruises darken or get purplish until they completely heal. It would normally take over ten days for the bruising to totally vanish.
- Unless your surgeon says it is alright to take medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen, do not take these kinds of drugs. Also, it is not advisable to engage in alcohol for at least three weeks following the surgery.

- Talking about the cast, it is usually removed after five to seven days following the surgery. At this point, the swelling goes down.
- After removing the cast, use a mild and gentle cleanser to avoid inflaming the tissues.
- Taking of food supplements is also advised by doctors to speed up the course of nose job recovery.
