Side Effects of Lasik Eye Surgery
Side effects after Lasik procedure varies from patient to patient. The most common immediate Lasik surgery side effect is a feeling of discomfort. This uneasiness may last for about a day or two. This side effect may be more due to anxiety than the surgery itself. typically there should not be any major side effects, if the Lasik procedure as carried out successfully. However, based on our experience, we have listed a few side effects that may be seen in some people:
- Sensitivity to Light: Some people may find it difficult to drive at night or during the evenings, with the lights shining in their eyes.
- Dry eyes is another side effect that could go away with time and proper treatment
- Halo or Light Circles Around Objects: Some Lasik patients complain about seeing a halo around objects. But this too should pass over time.
- Contrast Sensitivity: Patients in some cases do not see objects with the same contrast as earlier – the images appears slightly rough and not very sharp. This typically should go away in a couple of months.
Laser Eye Treatment Side Effects
Some of the other side effects of laser eye surgeries include:
- Eye Infections -This does not normally happen, but if it does, your eyes may take a little longer to heal. Your Lasik surgeon must take all precaution to avoid causing an eye infection.

Long Term Side Effects of Lasik Eye Surgery
Lasik eye surgery has been in practice for the last 10-12 years and hence the really long term side effects are yet to be found. Based on the experiences of patients who underwent lasik treatment a few year ago there were a few long term effects that we may shortlist.
- Night vision may not be very clear and you may see halo’s around objects. This may also impair your ability to drive at nights.
- Reading glasses may still be required as you age, your eyes age naturally and the effects of the lasik may not last forever.
Most of the times, people who suffer from side effects of lasik surgery are those who have not been screened properly and those who are not well educated about the requirements. Â It is very important that you are aware of the health requirements, and rule out any other possibility of rectifying your vision before you get treated with Lasik. People who suffer from diseases of the immune system and those with eye diseases should absolutely avoid Lasik treatment and thus stay away from the side effects and risks associated with it.
