What are the side effects of breast reduction
As in any surgery, there is always a possibility of side effects after you undergo a breast reduction surgery. When you reduce your breast size, a part of the breast tissue is removed to lessen the weight of your breast. This is normally performed when your breast appear oversize and out of shape. The reduction surgery gives your breast a much lighter and pleasing look.
Some of the common side effects of breast reduction surgery occur due to some infection, bleeding or reaction to anesthesia given to your during your surgery. This may cause you some pain immediately after the surgery, which is normally cured with some pain medicines prescribed by the surgeon treating you.
Some of the typical side effects of breast reduction surgery include:
- Scars on the breast: Sometimes the surgery may leave permanent scars on your breasts and nipples. Sometimes internal bleeding may also causes the scars to enlarge.
- Loss of nipple position and symmetry of breast: At times, depending on where the incisions were made and how big they were, the nipples may not be in the original position. Also, both breasts may not maintain the same size. Although in most cases these are not very obvious, it is better to be aware of this side effect. A more experienced surgeon would be able to operate without causing these side effects.
- Nipple and Breast Sensitivity: It is possible to lose some sensation in the breast and nipples around the areas the incisions were made. Most of the times, this loss of sensation is temporary, but there have been incidents where these losses were of a permanent nature.
- Another side effect of breast reduction could be difficulty in breast feeding. Although this not not common, it would be good to take expert advise from a experienced surgeon if you are in that stage of your life.
