What are Gummy Bear Breast Implants

Conventional silicone gel implants is made of thick, liquid silicone gel. They are the most popular form of implants as they give a natural feel and shape to the breasts. But the downside with silicone gel implant is, if it get ruptured, the liquid will slowly leak out into the breast area causing complications.

A slightly more tightly linked molecular bond in these silicone gels have created a new implant material. This new cohesive gel implant is slightly harder, rubbery textured and has a consistent feel as those of gummy bears. Hence the name gummy bear silicone implants. If you cut a wedge out of this rubbery gel, it will maintain its shape. This is why gummy bear implants are called “form stable”.  Unlike the conventional silicone gel, if the gummy bear shell ruptures, it will not leak and hence prevent any damage to the breast area. Some may even refer to this as gummy bear rubber implant.

Advantages of the gummy bear silicone breast implants

  1. Even though they are “form stable” they impart the desired shape to the breast giving it a very natural look and feel.
  2. The gel does not shift from one place to another as they are stable. This prevents any lining being formed on the surface.
  3. As mentioned earlier, there are no leakages of the gummy bear implants if they rupture.

Disadvantages of the gummy bear silicone breast implants

  1. Breast shape needs to be decided between the surgeon and the patient. This because the the gummy bear is “form stable” they impart their shape to the breast. You need to decide if the tear drop implant if the right one for you or some other shapes need to be explored before the implant.
  2. The incision size id bigger in the case of gummy bear breast implants. In the conventional silicone implants, they could be injected – but with this form-stable gummy bear implant, you may need an incision of  1 -2 inches.

Saline breast implants have a saline solution placed inside a silicone shell. The new cohesive gel implants are slighlty more firmer and hold the liquid together firmly without losing the natural tender tissue feel.
