Breast Augmentation Before and After | Expectations, Preparations, and Recovery
Breast augmentation is mammaplasty in medical terms. It is also called breast enlargement. It is a cosmetic surgery that involves the use of breast implants to satisfy desires for bigger and fuller breasts. It is also the procedure used to restore volume of the breast that has been lost after weight reduction or after pregnancy.
Prior to the surgery, you will be asked to consult with your plastic surgeon. You will be notified of all information regarding the breast augmentation before and after, and it is your chance to be able to ask questions.
Before Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is statistically the most common form of plastic surgery being performed in the United States nowadays. However, the fact remains that it is a surgical procedure. In effect, it still requires that it be done by a medical professional who is in line in that field.
Basically the breast augmentation before and after should be discussed to you by your plastic surgeon. You will be informed of all directions prior to the surgery and after breast augmentation. Just like breast augmentation before, the surgery today is still done in an independent surgical unit or preferably in a hospital.
During Breast Augmentation
During the day of the breast augmentation procedure, you need to come along with a companion, someone to help and assist you before after breast augmentation. During the procedure, you will be under general anesthesia. You will be unconscious for the entire duration of the procedure and you will not feel anything at all.
There are some surgeons or patients who prefer to do the procedure on local anesthetics, though. In this instance, the patient will be sedated and will be conscious but there are no discomforts.
It is important that you know all these things on breast augmentation before and after, so that you know what to expect during the time of the procedure.
What kind of incision would be best for you is among the things you should discuss with your surgeon on breast augmentation before and after. During the surgery there will be two types of incision. It could either be one of the following:
- In the inframammary crease (just next to the areola)
- The armpit or transaxillary crease
- In the navel
A pocket will then be made where the breast implant will be inserted. The implant may be filled even before the surgery or during the surgery. After which the cut will be closed.
After Breast Augmentation
It is important to be reminded that the result will not be permanent. Over time, the appearance of the augmentation procedure may change and this is the reason why some would consider a breast augmentation revision.
